There are lots of ways to get to other worlds besides the hat. A looking glass, for one….

Rumpel mentioned several different things when shouting at the Blue Fairy about getting Bae back. I remember mention of a realm-jumper specifically. The only reason they didn’t work for getting here is because this was a land where magic couldn’t work. Rum said that magic in Victor’s was feeble but that it was there. Consequently, those modes of travel he mentioned before would work for his purposes.

As to why he’d be there, he might have been interested in using science to get to our world, especially since the timeline has him teaching Regina and not entirely certain that she would suit his purposes. I think he had a lot of irons in the fire trying to come up with a way to get Bae.

To be fair to Rumpel, she asked to leave and he said that they had discussed this before and that they couldn’t leave the village. He seemed resigned. She seemed to know what he was going to say and why he was going to say it. It’s a discussion they had had more than once or twice but we don’t know what the specifics of that discussion are. Milan seemed like she was giving it one last try, knowing what the answer would be. It never seemed as though Rum shut her down or over ruled her. It seemed to me there was a specific reason and not simply Rum’s obstinance or cowardice. I think we’ll find out later and that it relates back to the war and his wound.

Two football players kidnapped a sixteen-year-old girl who was possibly drugged and too drunk to resist and took her to several parties where she was then raped. THE EVENT WAS EVEN LIVE-TWEETED BY THE PEOPLE INVOLVED.

From the NYT website: “Twitter posts, videos and photographs circulated by some who attended the nightlong set of parties suggested that an unconscious girl had been sexually assaulted over several hours while others watched. She even might have been urinated on. In one photograph posted on Instagram by a Steubenville High football player, the girl, who was from across the Ohio River in Weirton, W.Va., is shown looking unresponsive as two boys carry her by her wrists and ankles. Twitter users wrote the words “rape” and “drunk girl” in their posts.”

Local parents and authorities in Steubenville, OH are invested in covering the story up, claiming the girl “made it up” to cover up the fact that she drank too much and was out late, and that it’s ruining their football program - despite the fact that there is evidence of these boys laughing and talking about the rape on video and through social media as it happens. DON’T LET THESE SICK BASTARDS GET AWAY WITH IT JUST BECAUSE THEY’RE PRECIOUS FOOTBALL PLAYERS.

(Sidenote: “Dead” is a euphemism for “drugged”.)
